It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. A couple little known Punky type bands from Belfast and Dublin opened the show. They were rather slow and dark. Which some guy told me was par for the course with "bands from the North". U2 who were on the verge of superstardom had just recorded or were recording War. They played a set that was filled with Bono antics, climbing on the scaffolding mingling with the crowd etc. I had already heard them in the states and could see the new material was a step up for them.
I however, had come to see the man. I am a drummer and have always liked the blues. It is a touchstone for so much music. With the passage of time I am glad to hear Rory jam with others but at the time I was disappointed. It was my first time seeing Rory and I wanted all the Rory I could get.
