Madrid: the city that never sleeps. From its beginnings as an islamic garrison for the emir of Cordoba in 854 AD it has been a city of seeming endless upheaval. Chosen as permanent seat for the royal court in 1561 by Felipe II (much to the ire of Toledo) it has had its share of conflict:from its occupation by Napoleanic forces in the early 19th century and the ensuing Peninsula Wars to the bloody civil war and seating of Franco in the 1930's. With the death of Franco in 1975, the city has prospered under Juan Carlos and democratic rule. Today it is one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities, famous for its beautiful architecture, its endless nightlife, and its friendly Madrilenos.

Rory played at the Teatro Monumental, a large, four story theater used for concerts, opera, and flamenco. The show was taped for Spanish radio and tv. A video clip of Rory doing Tattoo'd Lady at this concert can be seen HERE
So have a bite to eat at famous Botin's where Hemmingway is said to have dined, or just grab a few tapas at the Plaza Mayor and head on down Atocha Calle to the Teatro Monumental where Rory is set to give a monumental concert himself.
