Rory skyrocketed to fame in the late Sixties with the band,
“Taste”. Although short-lived, the three-piece blues and jazz-influenced band was immensely popular in Ireland, the United Kingdom and throughout Europe. The band broke up at the end of 1970 however, and Rory went on to even greater success with his new band, the “Rory Gallagher Band”, and in 1972 was picked as Melody Maker’s “Guitarist of the Year,” unseating Eric Clapton as the top guitarist in the popular
poll.

Throughout the Seventies and Eighties, Rory was known for his wildly energized performances that proved difficult to translate onto a studio album. Dismissive of the whole pop single culture, Rory refused to produce “singles” for the radio stations, preferring word-of-mouth approach to achieve his measure of fame. It was often said that once you had attended a Rory Gallagher Concert you were a fan for life. Although never given his true measure of fame, for many he will always be the ultimate blues and rock guitarist of the modern era.

This blog site contains many of the updated items that are found on the main website at:Shadowplays.com including numerous audio tracks and sometimes the occasional video clips of his performances at different venues. There is information and pictures regarding some of the venues he has played at, and photo and video streams from Flickr and YouTube.

I hope you will enjoy your visit here and come back soon.

Tweet Welcome to my tribute to Irish guitar legend, Rory Gallagher.
