Wexford, Ireland, and currently resides in St.Louis, Missouri where he is the Smurfit-Stone Professor of Irish Studies and Professor of English at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He is a former president of the American Conference for Irish Studies and the author of a book of essays titled, From the Sin-e Cafe to the Black Hills as well as five highly regarded collections of poetry. \u201cBlues for Rory\u201d comes from his third book of poems, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salmonpoetry.com\/details.php?ID=151&#038;a=149\" title=\"The Crosses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Crosses<\/a> published by Salmon Publishing. He is a four-time winner of the Se\u00e1n \u00d3 R\u00edord\u00e1in\/Oireachtas Award, the premier award for a new collection of poems in Irish.  He won theLawrence O\u2019Shaughnessy Award for poetry in 2000 for collection of poems, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Corcach-Agus-Danta-Eile-Louis\/dp\/B004WZU9GE\" title=\"Cork and other Poems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corcach agus D\u00e1nta Eile (Cork and other Poems)<\/a>.  One of the poems deals with the passing of Irish legend Rory Gallagher during the author\u2019s absence from his beloved Ireland. He has published hundreds of poems in literary journals and twelve books of poetry.  He also writes a poetry column on the blues for the Chicago Blues Guide, a webzine dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Chicago Blues scene.   &#8220;One of Only Two&#8221; is a prose poem written by Kalamaras for and about Irish legend, Rory Gallagher. The poem  &#8220;Return of the King&#8221; is all encompassing fantastical take on the life and times of Irish legend, Rory Gallagher, straddling the line between the real and only imagined of his famous career.
