Amsterdam Concertgebouw --June 5, 1971

The date and venue of this concert is in question, most probably taking place on June 5, 1971 at the "Technische Hogeschool Twente Enschede". Many bootlegs of this concert identify the venue as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, however.

Amsterdam was originally built at the mouth of the Amstel river during the 13th Century. Originally named "Aemstelredamme", or "damn in the Amstel", referring to the damn built to keep out the rush of flooding seawater from the Zuiderzee. It is called the city that never sleeps, and boasts having "Voor Elck Wat Wils", loosely translated as "something for everyone." Indeed, with its Van Gogh Museum, numerous concentric canals and festival-like damn square, world famouse Concertgebouw, and infamous Red Light District, it would be hard to claim otherwise.

Possibly Rory played at the famed Concertgebouw, one of the most visited venues in the world. Famous for its beautiful acoustics in the Main Hall and Recital Hall. But more than likely he performed at the Technische Hogeschool Twente in nearby Enschede, now called the University of Twente, a sprawling campus said to lie on the drowned village of Drienerlo, it's Church Tower only recently found in 1979.

Whatever the venue, Rory was sure to bring down the house. So grab a little "Dutch Courage" at famous Baba's in the district and crank up the volume as Rory does Holland.
