Rory Gallagher Around the Web — March 2009

Here are a few Rory Gallagher mentions on the world wide web:

  • 1,000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die   Award winning journalist Tom Moon gives his list of 1,000 must hear albums. Taking his cue from Patricia Schultz’s best seller, “1,000 Places to See Before You Die,” Tom explores all genres of music, from classical to jazz to blues to rock, and gives his opinion on which ones are a must to hear. Rory makes the cut with his outstanding live album, “Irish Tour ’74.” “Where other rockers seize the blues as a chance to show off, Gallagher positively sings on the guitar, to the point where you wonder whether his fingers are even on the strings.” — Tom Moon
  • Everybody I Shot is Dead   Canadian Rock ‘n Roll photographer and author, Deborah Chesher, has put out a new coffee-table book full of amazing photographs, memories and anecdotes of 48 musicians she “shot” in Vancouver and Los Angeles from 1974-1979 who have since died. Included in this group is Rory Gallagher: “If you’re not a fan of Rory Gallagher, you probably have really crappy taste in music. If you’ve never heard him play, it’s not too late to become a fan. If you play guitar and you’ve never listened to Rory Gallagher, you don’t actually play guitar.” — Deborah Chesher
  • Sham-Rock Review   Belfast’s Ulster Hall is in the middle of a month long celebration of its grand reopening after being closed two years for refurbishment. On St. Patrick’s Day Night, the Ulster Hall presented “Sham-Rock”, a tribute to the greats of Irish Rock, including “Belfast’s adopted son”, Rory Gallagher. Performances by Limehouse Lizzy, The Willie Byrne Band, and Sinnerboy paid tribute to their respective idols Thin Lizzy and Rory Gallagher. “Overall, it was a quite fantastic night of music in Belfast, with the only criticisms after the show being that the party didn’t go on, all night long.” — Brian Elliott
