Reggae Island by Brian Jahn & …
New York City based photographer Brian Jahn has shot his full share of celebrity photos. From contemporary pop stars Rob Thomas and Jason Mraz – to rappers Snoop Dogg and Fav Five Freddie – to music icons Willie Nelson and Al Green, his portfolio is stuffed with portraits and live action shots of legendary musicians. He is also co-author of Reggae Island: Jamaican Music In The Digital Age, a collection of pictures and interviews of over fifty contemporary reggae artists and producers. But it was his earlier camera work when he was still in High School that makes Brian the subject of this posting. On February 6, 1976, in celebration of his 15th birthday, Brian got the opportunity to take some pictures of Blues and Rock guitarist Rory Gallagher during his performance at the Erie County Field House in Erie, Pennsylvania.
It was at the Erie County Field House in Erie, PA. Was an amazing show and I couldn’t have been any closer, I was getting sweated on (lol). I was 15 at the time and printed the photos for my photography class. I had been a fan ever since my friend told me “you got to hear this!” and played me the Irish Tour lp, it was 1975 when I first heard it, I was real surprised when he came to town since we rarely got any shows there. I made sure I was there early to get up front for some good photos. I didn’t get to meet him, wish I did, but I was close enough for me back then. — Brian Jahn
Brian has graciously allowed me to post his pictures from that concert on this site. Be sure to check out his website at BrianJahn.com. He’s got a boatload of great looking pictures up there. Or visit his photo blog on Jamaican music and culture at Blessings All Over, Seen.
Thanks again Brian for letting me post your Rory Gallagher pictures on my blog!
